rally night

Dear Friends:
Summer is winding down, and the Fall is upon us. We’ve planned a special service for this Sunday evening, August 29, to mark the change of seasons. It’s time to round everybody up and launch our Fall schedule. I want to ask you to join us on Sunday night and to be a part of what’s happening at our church.
There will be a Fellowship Supper at 5:00 in the Fellowship Hall. You don’t have to bring anything—just show up! The menu will be fried chicken, rice and gravy, green beans, and dessert. Enjoy the fellowship around the table, and catch up with friends you haven’t seen over the summer.
At 6:00, we will have a One Night Revival Service in the sanctuary. It will be an inspiring time of praise and thanksgiving. Our guest preacher will be John Ed Mathison, who served for 36 years as Senior Minister at Frazer Memorial UMC in Montgomery. During those years, Frazer Memorial became one of the largest Methodist churches in the country and had the highest average attendance of any United Methodist Church. In his casual, almost “folksy” style, John Ed has a unique way of connecting with people and motivating and challenging them to do great things for God.
The choir has prepared a spectacular anthem for the service, and Lonnie Parsons will lead us in some great congregational singing. And, in addition, Belinda Peoples will be here to sing a solo. She has been with us before and has blessed us with her beautiful and powerful voice. The nursery will be open, and there will be special activities for preschool and elementary children during the service. We hope that our youth will sit together at the front of the sanctuary like they do on Sunday mornings. Let’s fill the sanctuary.
A lot has been happening at the church over the summer months, but “you ain’t seen nothing yet!” There’s a new spirit in our church. The energy and excitement are contagious. Come and be a part of it! Over the next few weeks and months, we’ll see even more things happening.
· The new building addition will open for use in September.
· A new, additional morning worship service led by Rusty Glasgow will kick off in October.
· Several new and revived mission opportunities will be presented by Sherrill Corson- for classes, groups, families, and individuals.
· Get ready for an exciting Christmas on the Bluff production on Sunday evening, December 12 for the entire community.
· Plus all our “regular” ministries, programs, and activities.
Don’t miss this great evening. Mark Rally Night on your calendar. I look forward to seeing you then.

family fun day!
on sunday, april 25, bpumc will be having a family day at camp sumatanga. i think several people from our class are planning to attend, so it should be a lot of fun! below are directions to camp & a suggested list of "what to bring" items.

- Turn right onto county road 44 {sumatanga road}:: travel 1.7 miles & pass through rock entrance
- Turn at the 4th right turn:: sign will say lake trail & pavilion

The Study of the Book of James
What to expect?
The book of James is composed of 108 verses – 59 of which are commands. That’s were James becomes practical…Maybe too practical! You can expect this study to be difficult...Not because it will be hard to understand, but because it will be all too easy to understand!
Take problems...James understands that nobody's life is perfect. He doesn't tell us how to live trouble free (that's not practical), but how to live when trouble hits. Do we worry? Do we complain? Or do we use our trials and tribulations as an opportunity to grow our relationship with God?
Take words...We all say things we wish we hadn't. James helps us use words more carefully and more constructively. Do they hurt others? Are they truthful? Are they loving? Do they advance God's kingdom?
Take money...It flows all around us! Do we withhold it when others are in need? Do we put more value on worldly things than on the things of God?
Take time...If we have enough money, we know we never have enough time. We do all we can to get the most out of each hour of the day, filling our calendars with activity. But do we miss God's will and perspective in the middle of our schedule making?
It is our hope that through this study, God will change each of us in ways that we are not necessarily ready to change. Through the process, God will have the opportunity to do what he promised to do…Transform our heart and lives into the image of Jesus.
