Prayers Needed

I post today to ask for your prayers for my niece, Hadley, who has been having problems swallowing, coughing, and hoarseness in her voice. She went to the doctor today and they are wanting to do a procedure in the morning to see if something is stuck in her throat/lungs or if there is a potential growth that is causing her problems. Needless to say, just putting a 10-month-old to sleep is very unnerving, but we pray and ask for you to pray for a positive outcome and safe procedure. Hadley is the daughter of my oldest sister, Christy.

Also, Jeremy had a fellow co-worker pass away suddenly on Sunday afternoon while cutting the grass. It looks to be an apparent heart attack, but has not been confirmed. He was an older gentleman...Vibrant, healthy, and full of life. Please pray for his family and co-workers during this difficult time.

Schedule Update

What a beautiful spring day we are having today! I am sitting outside while I type this because the weather is just too gorgeous to be inside. We passed around the sign-up calendars for April & May during Sunday School this morning and I've posted the updates on the right. If you weren't able to make it this morning, please look at the dates and leave a comment if there are any you would like to sign up for. We missed everyone who couldn't be there and look forward to seeing you next week!

"Noises"

Here's a summary of my lesson from March 8, 2009:

What kind of noises do we have in our lives today?

• Cell phones, texting, internet, tv, more than one tv, radio, i-pods, computers, email, etc...

Does your schedule, your time, and your life look like that of a person who wants to hear God’s voice?

• As I was thinking about this question in my own life, I stopped to think about my daily schedule. (I realized I had no quiet time with God).

What does the Bible tell us about the importance of when and how God speaks to us?

• 1 Kings 19:11-12 (God speaks to Elijah in the silence).
• Luke 5:16 (If Jesus prayed in silence, it might be good for us as well).
• Matthew 11:28-29 (If I am not still and I don't listen, how is God going to give me rest?)
  

Key Questions:

• Is there a connection between the amount of noise in our lives and our inability to hear God?
• Have you spent the same amount of time worrying and talking about difficult, confusing situations as you have spent in silence listening to what God might have to say?
• What are some things in our daily lives we could change to eliminate some of the noises we encounter?
• Why is silence so awkward?
  

Regardless of how or where or when you pray, God's silence is always there, always comforting and always available - if only for one minute each day. But that one minute can fill us with God and help us get through the craziness of a busy day. What better way to do that than in silence with God, our first and best friend?

Prayer Requests from Sunday, March 8th

"Come to me all you people that are tired and have heavy burdens. I will give you rest. Accept my work and learn from me. I am gentle and humble in spirit. And you will find rest for your souls." Matthew 11:28-29

• Drew Carlisle's grandmother recently passed away. Please pray for Drew and his entire family during this difficult time.
• Brooke had some friends from college (twin sisters) who recently lost their Mom to colon cancer.
• Brooke's friend who recently found out she was pregnant and due in late September.
  
• Curt was notified about the passing of a fellow business associate.
• Julie's Dad who is currently looking for a new job.
• Lauren's friend who recently lost her job.
• Rachel's uncle who has been receiving treatment for leukemia received some good news...His white blood cell count was high! Please continue to pray for his healing as he has a long road to recovery.
• Congratulations! Rachel recently passed the second CPA exam! Way to go!

Due to the beautiful snowfall this morning Sunday School class for Footsteps has been canceled. Reed and Emily will pick up next week with their lesson. Have fun in the snow today and be careful.
